Junior Thespian Festival, October 29th, 2011

This is an awesome opportunity for our students! In preparation, Shileah Corey from Edmonds Heights K-12 is willing to come one day and coach our actors after they have memorized or nearly memorized their monologue. Mark Press is excited to help actors with their musical choices and vocal improvement.

Please contact Brandis by email ASAP. She has monologues and can help you get started. We are recommending that the actors start looking before school starts in September.

This is a new opportunity to give our students an experience preparing them for what high school has to offer on a less intimidating scale. Below is the information from the Festival Committee.

Junior Thespian Festival for 6th-9th grade students on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at River Ridge High School in Lacey, Washington (near Olympia). Carpools will be used. Cost is $35 per student. As a performer, the students have an opportunity to see and be seen by other middle school performers as well as a chance to get constructive feedback from professional adjudicators. It’s also a great way to prepare for the high school IE Festival, where top scoring students can advance to state and national levels. The adjudication gives the students valuable feedback on what they are doing well and what areas they need to work on. The students can perform and be adjudicated in 4 categories:

  • Monologues - One student performs a 3 min. (or less) cutting of a single monologue from a play or musical.

  • Duo/Group Acting - 2-10 students perform a 5 min. (or less) cutting of a multi-character acting scene from a play or musical.

  • Solo Musical - One student performs a 5 min. (or less) solo song from a musical with a self-provided CD accompaniment recording.

  • Duo/Group Musical - 2-10 students perform a 5 min. (or less) cutting of a multi-character piece of musical theatre with a self-provided CD accompaniment recording.

Festival registration and logistical information will be available in mid-September.
